Special Guest Lecturer: Dr. Cindy Sakai, OD, & Shelby Zimmerman
Title: "Making the grade: California's Visually Impaired Children"
Dr. Cindy Sakai, OD graduated as the Feinbloom Award recipient from UC Berkeley School of Optometry and went on to complete her Residency at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital, gaining post-graduate training in the field of Rehabilitative Low Vision Optometry. Dr. Sakai has held teaching positions as Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Berkeley School of Optometry and Lecturer at San Francisco State University, and also worked at the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Dr. Sakai has also served as the Chief of California's School for the Blind in Fremont, traveling throughout the State of California as a rehabilitative/low vision Optometrist helping visually impaired school children. Dr. Sakai has worked in private practice at Rockridge Optometry for 10 years. Dr. Sakai is a Bay Area native and enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 kids, running, and listening to podcasts.

Shelby Zimmerman is the low vision program coordinator at California School for the Blind. She is a certified orientation and mobility specialist and is currently pursuing an education specialist credential in visual impairments. Shelby received her Master of Arts in Special Education degree from San Francisco State University. Shelby has worked as a guide dog instructor and taught orientation and mobility and daily living skills to visually impaired adults. She has been an active volunteer with Guide Dogs for the Blind since 2002

Should you need to cancel, please do so 48 hours in advance of the meeting. A $45.00 penalty fee is incurred for a no-show with an RSVP.
Please note that to receive continuing education credit, you must arrive no later than ten minutes after the lecture has started. Only full 2.5-hour credit will be granted, no partial credit for only attending a portion of the lecture.
